The Perfectly Packed Gym Bag

The perfect workout begins with the right equipment. I’m not talking dumbbells & jump ropes; I’m talking the stuff you need in your gym bag for before & after breaking a sweat. If you have your gym bag packed & ready to go the night before, that 6am jog won’t be half bad. Here are the things I always keep in my gym bag:

1.) Makeup Bag 

For the essentials, obviously.

2.)Makeup Remover Wipes

Don’t forget to wipe your face before & after sweating it out.

3.) Deodorant 

Your gym crush will never be anything more than eye candy if you smell bad.

4.) Chapstick

I don’t leave the house without it.

5.) Hair Brush

Tame your flyaways…

6.) Hair ties & Headband

Have you ever tried working out with your hair down?

The perfect bag for all the little things.

7.) Body Spray

See #3.

8.) Hand Sanitizer

I don’t even want to know how many people touched the treadmill handles before I did.

9.) Yoga Mat

You can crunch without worrying about contacting lice.

10.) Headphones

If I had to choose only one item to have in my gym bag, it would be this.

11.) Snack

Preferably not a brownie or bag of chips. Bars are always a good choice, or bring a packet of protein to mix into a drink.

12.) Water

I think this is a given.

How to Relax after a Long Day

After a long day, you might be tempted to crawl in bed with ice cream & cry. But instead of making your already bad day even worse, try these tips to calm down & go to bed feeling refreshed. After all, I’m a college student so… I know stress. These are my tried & true tips for feeling better & regaining my focus.

1.) Do a Face Mask

Maybe don’t try the black charcoal mask that takes your face off with it, but try something that has calming, cooling ingredients to help you relax, such as a cucumber or lavender face mask. There are plenty of DIY’s out there for you Pinterest lovers, but for those of you who prefer to keep your kitchen free from beauty experiments, Target & your local pharmacy have a good spread of masks. Find a mask that is suiting for your skin type & needs. I’ll link my favorite below:

2.) Read

I used to read all the time as a kid, but since coming to college I find myself turning to Netflix when I want to relax. As much as a good episode of New Girl can be fun to watch, reading keeps your eyes away from the screen & focused on something more calming. Here are some of my favorite books:

3.) Write in a Grateful Journal

My new years resolution was to complain less & take a few minutes every day to reflect on all I have to be grateful for. It really is great to take a step back at the end of the day, no matter how good or bad, & see all there is to be happy about. Even when you’re having a good day, it’s important to check in with yourself & having a journal that you use to write down a few things you’re grateful for is a great way to do that.

4.) Pray + Meditate

I start & end every day with a few minutes of prayer & meditation. It gets my mind in the right place & reminds me that everything will be a-okay. It might take awhile to get used to sitting in complete silence, but focusing on your breathing & turning your phone off are the easiest ways to get started. There are also a lot of meditation guides on YouTube if you have more time to relax.

5.) Take time for your Hobby

For me, it’s writing for this blog! Pick an activity that makes you happy & calm & go at it! Whether it be coloring, yoga or cooking, anything that can bring your heart rate down & focus your mind will work.

My Fitness Routine

“I love running!”- said no one ever.

I’m going to admit that running is one of my favorite ways to break a sweat, but some days it’s hard to leave my cozy bed for the thought of going to sweat in a smelly gym. But coming up with a schedule & routine that works for me has helped me get out of bed on even the coldest, darkest, sleepiest mornings. I’m such an organized, scheduled person in every aspect of my life, but especially when it comes to working out, because it keeps me accountable & motivated; which is something we all need!

I like to switch up my fitness routine every season so I don’t burn out. I also take the time to relax & meditate while I’m stretching to have some zen time before a busy day. It boosts my mood & finishes my workout on a positive note.

Below I’ve attached my workout schedule in hopes to inspire you to pick something you love, & stick with it.
