Happy Friday!

Today’s outfit of the week is pretty simple: a black romper, sun hat & flip flops. Put a bunch of basic items together, to create a chic, minimalistic look.

This was one of the few times I wasn’t wearing a bathing suit over the weekend, so I thought I should capture it! I got the shoes at Charming Charlie & I always get a lot of compliments whenever I wear them (btw, they’ve having a semi-annual sale right now). I’m not sure what they’re called though… Strappy sandals? Band flip flops? Idk, but they’re cute & that’s all that matters! I’ll link similar items below so you can snag yourself a pair! (& they’re both under $20)

I was waiting patiently for my continental breakfast in this pic, btw…

Staycation Recap

Today is the Monday-est Monday ever, if that’s even a thing! I’m still in vacation mode. But speaking of vacation, below are some pictures from my stay at Scottsdale Camelback Resort this weekend. I planned on taking the time to shoot more, but I honestly got so caught up in actually being present, that I forgot all about it. I think it’s important to take time to relax & not focus on work, & vacation is the perfect time to do that.

Possibly the best part of the whole weekend… the Cupcake ATM! I got a carrot cake cupcake & wow, devine. 10/10 would recommend making a stop if you’re ever in Scottsdale!
I got to catch up with a college friend! Long distance friendships are hard.
I spent most of my time lying poolside trying not to burn! And also catching up on Vogue.

I wish I had more to share, but honestly it felt good to not be so focused on finding the next ‘grammable thing & just be able to relax. Keep an eye out for more pics of my whereabouts…

Happy Friday!

Today is an especially good Friday because I’m going on staycation! It was the only thing getting me through this week. One of my best gal friends is coming & I’m so excited for a much needed girls weekend. Also, I will definitely be taking tons of pictures so I’ll do a little staycation recap on the blog next week! Now, for my outfit of the week…

This is a relaxed office look. (For all you interns & 9-5ers!) Professional & put together, but comfy. Comfort should be the first thought when getting dressed for work!
Add a cardigan for extra chic-ness & in case the AC is on full blast! Adding layers to any look can help dress it up.

The Perfectly Packed Gym Bag

The perfect workout begins with the right equipment. I’m not talking dumbbells & jump ropes; I’m talking the stuff you need in your gym bag for before & after breaking a sweat. If you have your gym bag packed & ready to go the night before, that 6am jog won’t be half bad. Here are the things I always keep in my gym bag:

1.) Makeup Bag

For the essentials, obviously.

2.)Makeup Remover Wipes

Don’t forget to wipe your face before & after sweating it out.

3.) Deodorant

Your gym crush will never be anything more than eye candy if you smell bad.

4.) Chapstick

I don’t leave the house without it.

5.) Hair Brush

Tame your flyaways…

6.) Hair ties & Headband

Have you ever tried working out with your hair down?

The perfect bag for all the little things.

7.) Body Spray

See #3.

8.) Hand Sanitizer

I don’t even want to know how many people touched the treadmill handles before I did.

9.) Yoga Mat

You can crunch without worrying about contacting lice.

10.) Headphones

If I had to choose only one item to have in my gym bag, it would be this.

11.) Snack

Preferably not a brownie or bag of chips. Bars are always a good choice, or bring a packet of protein to mix into a drink.

12.) Water

I think this is a given.

What are your must-have gym bag items? Let me know in the comments or on social media!

It’s finally the weekend! It’s been a long week. I started an internship at an office so I’m full on adulting, but I get to do what I love so I can’t complain!

I went on a day trip to Flagstaff last week to go hiking with one of my good friends who also happens to take really great pictures… so of course we had to have a photoshoot! I got a lot of good feedback about my background for my outfit of the week last week, so I’ll try to stay creative for y’all!

P.S. Also, I’m as white as the wall, & I promise I tan, but you gotta do what you gotta do to match your theme…

This is the first sun hat I bought & I’ve worn it so much! If there is one item that can take your look from “eh” to “YAS!”  it’s a cute hat.
This denim sun dress has become a wardrobe staple.

Top 5 Favorite Netflix Shows

I admit it: I watch more Netflix than, well, most things. I just get hooked on a show & before I realize, it’s dark out &, oops, time to sleep & watch more Netflix. I’m currently watching How I Met Your Mother & Barney is definitely me in another life. So for those of you who also wish to procrastinate, here are my Top 5 Favorite Netflix shows of all time.

1.) New Girl

This is one of the first shows I ever watched when I discovered the world of Netflix & it remains a favorite. I relate to Jess so much because I am a very awkward person & I also cry & eat ice cream when any minor inconvenience occurs. 10/10 would recommend.

2.) The Office

OMG I can’t get enough of Pam & Jim. Or Dwight. Or Angela. Or Micheal for that matter. It’s one of those shows I go back to when I can’t think of anything else to watch. If you love to laugh, this one’s for you.

3.) Gossip Girl

I want to be Blair Waldorf so bad. She is so fabulous. For those of us that can’t actually afford to live in Manhattan’s Upper East Side with handsome men & preppy clothes, this is the best it gets. XOXO, Gossip Girl

4.) Shameless

This show has everything you could ever want: comedy, drama & romance. If you’ve ever grown up in a big family, you get the Gallaghers…

5.) How I Met Your Mother

I just want a relationship like Lily & Marshall. But I want to live a life like Robin. But instead I’m lying in bed watching Netflix & thinking up this blog post.

Let me know what shows you love on Netflix in the comments or on social media. I’m always looking for new reasons to take a break from adulting!

Tanning Essentials

It is finally June which means there’s no denying it’s officially summer time. If you’re anything like me, you’re dreading the heat, but looking forward to the dark glow you’ll have come September.

I used to spend my summer days lying out baking. Because of that, I have plenty of tips & essentials that are necessary to survive a day of sunning. I still use a lot of these products when I’m at the beach or hanging poolside with friends, even though I’ve switched to the less natural, yet safer, version of tanning. You can find the perfect self tanner here.

The first, most important item, is sunscreen. I used to avoid wearing sunscreen if I was going to be around people because some don’t smell good at all. But I found the perfect high SPF sunscreen that doesn’t smell & it has been a lifesaver. I use Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Lotion Sunscreen in SPF 30, and it can be found at most drugstores. When tanning, it is important to have some protection, so an SPF of 30 protects your skin, but doesn’t take away from that color!

After liberally applying sunblock, I put on Banana Boat Protective Spray Oil. It’s a tanning oil that has shine & aids in a quicker tan, but also offers some protection from those rays.

To protect my face from the sun, I wear a hat. Function & fashion. Shop my cute picks here:

Women’s Braided Sun hat with Chiffon Scarf

Pom Pom Straw Hat

Can’t forget about the eyes. I dig cat eye sunglasses. My favorites here.

Once you’re fully protected from the sun & ready to relax, put on some music & grab a book or magazine. Tanning is the perfect excuse to binge read Vogue or finish that book that’s been on your nightstand for 3 months. For some ideas of what to read, check out my article here.

And of course, any time you are going to be out in the sun, drink water! Lemon slices & umbrella  straw optional…

Happy tanning!

P.S.A. I realize you need to have a WordPress account to comment on articles, so if you don’t have an account, feel free to comment on my social media or DM me! I’d love to talk with y’all & hear what you have to say.

Happy Friday!

I got creative with the background for my outfit of the week. My town actually has a lot of cute spots to take pictures so I decided to give it a try. I recently got a nice camera & I’ve been looking for any opportunity to try it out & practice.

The dress is from Old Navy. It makes a great cover up & is super flowy so it’s my favorite thing to wear on hot summer days when clothes are the last thing I want to think about! Photo by Rachel Spillane @rachellspillane

Happy three day weekend!

This week’s outfit of the week incorporates an off-the-shoulder top & a floppy sun hat; two of my favorite fashion items at the moment. It’s the perfect outfit for the farmers market or lunch with a friend. I will link similar items below so you can recreate this outfit on your own!

Hat-Forever 21

Top- Forever 21

Booties- Nordstrom

The hat is from Forever 21 & the top is from one of my favorite LA boutiques. The booties are definitely my most worn pair of shoes & I got them at Rue a few years ago. (My feet stopped growing when I was super young, so shoe shopping is easy!)

Grad Party Cupcakes

It is officially graduation season! I love this time of year because everyone is so nervous & excited about the future. But the best part of it all (along with getting a degree!) is the parties. My brother graduates this month so I’ve been busy planning a party for family & friends.

My signature party dish is cupcakes, so of course I had to go with a graduation theme. These are super easy to make & look almost too good to eat!

To make this adorable yet edible dessert, start with your favorite cake mix & make cupcakes. Choose either vanilla or chocolate frosting & then you can add sprinkles that represent school colors. To make the graduation caps, I followed a stencil outline & then cut them out & colored them in. It is time consuming, but they turned out great! Once the caps are cut & colored, use Scotch tape to adhere a toothpick to the back of the hat. Stick it in the decorated cupcake & you’re set!

If you don’t have a grad hat stencil, you can make a different version here.
